Gym Rat Sport Tank

This one is personal.

The Gym Rat Sport Tank was inspired by our nephew Mason, who started bodybuilding at a young age and is still absolutely rocking it with his discipline and consistency. When I first used the term gym rat around him, he had never even heard it before. I grew up in the 80s, so to me that phrase was practically part of the wallpaper. 😂 But he heard it and immediately went, “Oh man, I love that.”

And that was it. The tank had a heartbeat.

I designed this piece for him, but it also carries a whole lot of my own history. I taught aerobics through the 80s and 90s, spent years training hard, went on to compete successfully in bodybuilding, and later wrote for Iron Man. That chapter of my life demanded discipline, grit, patience, and more sweat than I probably care to calculate.

My workouts look very different now, but that identity never really leaves you.

Once a gym rat, always a gym rat.

The years of training gave me a muscular foundation I’m deeply grateful for, but more than that, they taught me what it means to keep showing up when something is hard.

So this tank is for Mason, for me, and for every one of y’all who knows the feeling of walking into the gym and getting to work.
