The feathers woven into this design were gathered over time during a period of profound communication surrounding our beloved German Shepherd, who had already played an extraordinary role in our lives and continued to feel very present after her transition. Long before that, I had received impressions of having known this same soul in another form—as a horse—and those experiences quietly began weaving themselves together with memories of meaningful encounters I had with Native American people when I was a child.

Some designs begin as color and pattern. This one felt different. It arrived carrying memory.

The feathers, the rich earth tones, the brilliant blue sunflower, the weathered textures and symbolic details all became part of a piece that feels grounded, protective, ancient and deeply alive. There is something about it that seems to speak to the person who already understands that communication does not always happen through words—and that love does not necessarily end when a physical form changes.
